Ardmore distilled 1977 Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky Gordon $ MacPhail Elgin 40%:

The colour is rather like a Sauternes;  with a nice nose of white pepper, some peat, a nite of oil, dust, as well as raisin bread. 

On the palate there is pepper, a tone of tar, gasoline, an earthy note with just a touch of peat (less than in the nose), and the  sharp tangy impression of a well-matured Roquefort that with time in the open bottle softens nicely.  The finish lasts about 40 seconds.  3.5/5
