Bodegas Montecillo  Rioja

2009 Montecillo Gran Reserva Tempranillo Rioja:  good bouquet, displaying cedarwood, touches of spice and blackberry; it is lacking richness a bit and the finish is a bit short.   Drink - 2023  November 2018.   3/5

1948 Bodegas Mentecillo Fuenmayor Logroño winemaker Alejandro Navajas Rioja: it displays a transparent orange-red colour;  a bouquet of earthy forest mushrooms with umami in the background after some exposure to air.  In the mouth there is a taste of moist forest soil, mushrooms, and  still some forest berry fruitiness;  but it s thinned out, with a  fine acidity.  After more oxygenation more fruit comes to the fore, with cherry and later on grapefruit being prominent; with a finish of 40 seconds fading gloriously.
