1958 Enrico Serafino Barolo Classico medium light transparent garnet with a lighter rim, a musty nose with dry plumbs, hints of furniture
polish and earthy undertone. On the palate cassis, some residual tannins, lots of acid, with subsequent impressions of a mature jamon iberico. With more oxygen it achieves a good
balance with juicier fruit, ripe plums, cherries and blackcurrant. It is as if the initial acidic fruit is ripening in the glass. The whole wine is a bit dried out initially when then
warms up. The finish lasts about 50 seconds. The bottle was not decanted as we feared it to be too fragile; this bottle benefited from being opened several hours before
pouring. Drink now. An absolute delight after over 60 years; a bottle from an excellent vintage. July 2021 3.75/5
