1938 Mauxion Grande Champagne Lot 38 No 16 700ml Cognac
This is a 42% cask-strength, single-batch Cognac that is not chill filtered. It was distilled in 1938, spent over 50 years in Limousine oak, initially kept in
large bottles until its final bottling in 2016.
The colour is a beautiful copper red with and orange rim. The bouquet of wood orange with whiffs of pepper is combined with wood, and milk chocolate.
On the palate there were raisins, redcurrants mulberries, woods, a lovely myrrh on a background of warm spices. There is a long finish with good
rancio, cocoa flavours, and a long 80 seconds of a great finish. It is smooth but spicy with a beautiful balance; with good depth and texture.
This is a magnificent Cognac excelling in quality. Drink until 2038. June 2021.
